Ripening Guide

How to find if Farm Fresh mango is ripe?

Colour magic! Just look at the colour of the mango. If it is a mixture of green and golden yellow, no doubt it’s ripened! The reason is: as the fruit matures, it turns from green to a deep, golden yellow (refer to the ripening guide above). The mango progressively turns softer as it ripens. But in reality, not all mangoes change colour as they ripen. So the best way to know whether the mango is ripe is to squeeze them gently.

How to gauge when the mango is ripened?

When we squeeze the mango, it feels softer and the aroma comes from the stem end of the fruit. And this is a sign of perfect ripeness! If the mango is rock-hard when squeezed it is sure that the fruit is not ready to consume.

Don’t press too hard because it damages the internal cells of the mango and disables perfect ripening.

How to ripe mango at home?

Store the mangoes in a sealed paper bag or in our Farm Fresh MR.Mango-Container at room temperature with other ethylene-producing tomato or avocado fruit etc. The surrounding gas helps the fruit mature naturally and faster.

How to store mango?

Don’t ripe mangoes in the fridge but treat them like a banana! Do not refrigerate for a long period as it destroys the flavour. Refrigerate mangoes for a short while only after they are fully ripe, but never before. If so, the skin turns dark brown inside and spoils the flavour; this is commonly known as a chilling injury.

On average, mangoes can be stored for 7-14 days. But this can differ greatly, depending on storage, handling and degree of ripeness at the time of harvest.
